I have made quite a few changes to the posts that were here prior to having found these pages, and I am certain that I will make many more. If you find any of them objectionable for any reason, feel free to sign up and then complain. You did notice that I wrote sign up and then complain, right? I am afraid you that order of events is necessary for the protection of the Steampunk Wiki. Steampunk is ill defined, more of a feeling than anything one can actually think about. That leaves a great deal of wriggle room for people with commercial agendas. At the present time, anyone can claim to be a part of the Steampunk phenomenon, but they may or may not be. It will often depend on some very minor details about them. This is especially so when it comes to music, but is also applicable to other forms of art.

Many bands, if they do not fit into any other category, will often proclaim their work to be part of the steampunk genre, but when one visits their sites, one discovers that they are anything but steampunk bands. The same can be said for many authors of fantasy and science fiction prose. If their work cannot be said to fit into any other genre, then they are wont to claim that their work is part of the steampunk genre of fiction. Well, it is entirely possible to be all punk and no steam. Just as it is possible to be all punk and no cyber or all punk and no diesel. It is also possible to be simply circus or simply cabaret or simply vaudeville. The devil and the salvation both lie in the details.

Mind you, I am not setting myself up to be the sole arbiter on these matters. Even though I am an administrator, I will bend over backwards to accommodate your idea. You are welcome to join the Steampunk Wiki and make contributions. Part of the fun will be finding out just what exactly is steampunk and how does one tell.
